Total Immersion

The day started (and ended) at Dolby’s headquarters in San Francisco where YellowPike Media flew in four of their favorite gamers to experience Dolby Atmos from the top down. They were allowed to document their encounter along the way and we were there to document the entire thing.

First up was to see, hear and feel what exactly Atmos is in the theatrical experience. To do this, Dolby opened up their invite only theater for our gamers. Dolby played a few of their demos along with a few projects we aren’t allowed to share that were mixed in the 3D sound space. They were projected in Dolby Vision, as well. To say the sights and sounds were mind-blowing is to minimize the true immersive quality both of these aspect provided.

Next up was to bring the experience home for the gamers. Dolby wanted to let them feel what Atmos would feel like in a home setting. They were offered two different experiences, one with mounted and professionally installed speakers in a home living room environment and a second in a more modular system meant for apartment installations. Both were just as dynamic as the theater, with the obviously opportunity for more distraction.

Then came the main event. Our gamers were given two different headsets to play with, the Plantronics 800LX and the Plantronics 400LX. This is where the team of gamers shined and gave us the best stuff for what we were there to do, make the first video below.

We set out to make one videoand ended up with two.

They Speak for Themselves (The Brands)

With the teams from both companies assembled to watch our gamers experience Atmos, we decided to create a product video along the way. Using some of the same footage we had originally intended for the day of experience, as well as some interviews we set up in Dolby’s beautiful downtown space, we gave the creative and design teams from both Dolby and Plantronics a chance to tell us what made their headset so special.

What resulted was a fairly simple, but elegant production and an excellent by product of the day. This video gives audiences a chance to not only understand what Dolby Atmos is, but also why it is important in the gaming experience.
